Vyšehrad Free Tour
Description
We'll meet up at St. Vecenslao Square in Prague's New Town at the designated time, and together we'll embark on a fascinating journey into the legends of Prague. Our first stop will be Vyšehrad, accessible by subway.
Upon arrival, we'll marvel at the well-preserved Tabor Gate and Leopoldine Gate, the entrance gates to the Vyšehrad fortress. Legend has it that this is where the city of Prague originated, and we'll unveil all the intriguing details.
Next, we'll visit St. Martin's Rotunda, the oldest Romanesque church in the city, and the mysterious Devil's Column, a small pyramid with a captivating history.
Our exploration continues at Vyšehrad Cemetery, the resting place of prominent figures in Czech history. Within the cemetery, we'll enter the Slavín Mausoleum, where notable figures from the country and beyond are buried.
We'll then proceed to the nearby Chapter Church of Saints Peter and Paul, renowned for its beautiful Art Nouveau frescoes. Inside, we'll discover the treasures of the chapels, including the relic of St. Valentine, the tomb of St. Longinus, and the captivating painting of St. Luke.
Next, we'll encounter the remains of the ancient Acropolis, where we'll admire statues such as Libuše, Přemysl, Sousoší Ctirada in Šárky, Záboj, and Slavoj. These names may ring a bell!
Continuing our journey, we'll visit the Vyšehrad Well, which once supplied water to the castle, and explore the ruins of the Libuše baths. Here, we'll encounter the remnants of an ancient observation tower and learn the legend behind its namesake, Princess Libuše.
Our memorable tour of Vyšehrad will conclude at this enchanting location, offering breathtaking views of the Vltava River and the city. After a three-hour itinerary filled with wonders, we'll bid farewell.
